Flowers in the studio

Whenever I shoot flowers in the studio, I think of the badboy photographer Robert Mapplethorpe and his work. It’s not his S&M images from the 70s/80s — as provocative as they were — that come to mind. (Remember the infamous self-portrait of him naked with a bull whip protruding from his rear?)

It’s his studies of exotic flowers that I remember because they show his mastery in the studio. So here’s to Mapplethorpe and all the admirers of the flower.
